Ambrosia Bakery Cinnamon Roll Bread Pudding

Ambrosia Bakery Cinnamon Roll Bread Pudding

The Ambrosia Bakery in Baton Rouge, Louisiana makes as fine a cinnamon roll as I’ve ever tasted.

When I want cinnamon rolls, there is nowhere else I’ll go to get them.

After Beryl and I had a Krispy Kreme bread pudding at Walk-Ons Bistreaux and Bar in Baton Rouge, I knew right away we need to make a bread pudding with the Ambrosia Bakery cinnamon rolls.

(You could also use donuts or bread, hence the name “bread pudding.)

Here’s how we made our Ambrosia Cinnamon Roll Bread Pudding with Rum Sauce Topping

The Bread Pudding Ingredients

2 large cinnamon rolls
4 eggs
1 cup of milk
1 cup of heavy whipping cream
¼ cup of sugar
½ teaspoon of vanilla

How to Make the Bread Pudding

Chop cinnamon rolls and put in 8X8 pan
Heat the milk, heavy whipping cream, vanilla, and sugar to just before boiling
Remove from heat
Whip the 4 eggs together and slowly and to the milk mixture
Stir to blend well
Pour the mixture over the chopped cinnamon rolls
Refrigerate for two hours allowing the mixture to soak into the cinnamon rolls
Remove from refrigerator and bake in oven at 350 degrees for one hour

The Clean Knife Test:

After one hour in the oven, remove the pan and stick a butter knife in the bread pudding and remove it slowly. If the knife comes out clean, the pudding is done. If not, put it back in the oven for a few minutes until done.

The Rum Sauce Ingredients

1 cup of brown sugar
½ cup of butter (1 stick)
½ cup of heavy whipping cream
2 tablespoons of rum or whiskey
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1 teaspoon of cinnamon

How to Make the Rum Sauce

Melt the stick of butter in a sauce pan

Then add the heavy whipping cream and all the other ingredients

On medium heat, stir the mixture until it becomes bubbly, thick, and smooth
